Released just five months after his "Greatest Hits Collection, Volume 1" shot up Billboard's pop chart and debuted at #1 on the country album charts, Comin' On Strong is perhaps Trace Adkins' best work yet. Reunited with longtime producer, Scott Hendricks, along with co-producer, Trey Bruce, Adkins offers 11 tunes that are the essence of country music - lyrics about adult themes that feel absolutely real, melodies that stick in the mind, and just plain great interpretive singing. The first single, "Hot Mama," has already become an out-of-the-box anthem for steaming up suburban bedrooms.

Muze PNote On his fifth album, country star Trace Adkins makes a slight retreat from the ultra-modernism of his preceding release, CHROME. Shying away from that album's rock trappings and modern studio techniques, Adkins goes for a much twangier, straight-country sound with COMIN' ON STRONG. That's not to say that he's belting out Hank Williams tunes, or that anybody will mistake him for a New Traditionalist, but Adkins certainly sounds a lot closer to his roots here. As always, his deep baritone is the center of the arrangements, and his friendly, guy-next-door style is almost impossible to dislike. Whether he's extolling the virtues of a "Hot Mama," describing a dark night of the soul on "One Nightstand," or letting it all hang out on the rowdy, rambunctious "Rough & Ready," Adkins has the kind of voice and style that people can instantly relate to, and that's what being a country singer is all about.

Artist Overview

Part of the second wave of neo-traditionalists, former oil rig worker Trace Adkins found a decent amount of success in the early during the late 1990s. Then troubles with the law and dwindling record sales forced Adkins from the spotlight. The occasional Top 10 country charter kept Adkins on Nashville's radar, but it was 2005's single "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" and its subsequent video that relaunched Adkins and positioned him closer to the "hick-hop" movement exemplified by the likes of Big & Rich and Kid Rock than to popular Nashville hat acts.
