Author Bio
Roddy Doyle
Doyle writes fiction mostly about the problems of people in modern Ireland, which he has said is no longer "the simple place where people are dancing in country crossroads." Some of the circumstances of the hero of his novel PADDY CLARKE HA HA HA resemble Doyle's, except for the miserable childhood; Doyle claimed that his was "overwhelmingly happy." He earned a B.A. from University College, Dublin, and also trained as a teacher. He taught for 14 years, but gave it up in 1993 to write full time.

Praise

Publishers Weekly
"I think it's true to say that without teaching I would never have written 'The Commitments'. I was confronted day to day by these kids and I tried to imagine them a few years on, without parental or teacher supervision." - Roddy Doyle 03/25/1996
