Product Overview

Conduct Zero: Joong-pil is a jackass. A big one. He drinks, he smokes, and he cusses like a bastard. When he's not skipping class, he's slapping around puny little punks and taking their lunch money. Unfortunately, the duties of being the biggest, baddest alpha male in school are very time-consuming, leaving no time for studying. Joong-pil is also a dumbass. A big one. So when the innocent, yet delightfully feisty, Min-hee throws him a hormonal curveball, Joong-pil is ill-prepared to face life's nastiest little test question of all - for love or lunch money? His life, his friends, his reputation: even his lauded position as Master Ruler Awesome of the school are all suddenly at stake. Joong-pil must make a decision - and he must find something in this world that he can actually pass!

Marrying the Mafia: Now this is something everyone likes to hear, but for Dae-suh, it means the end to his perfect life. He has the perfect pedigree, the perfect resume, the perfect girlfriend, the perfect life. But one morning, Dae-suh wakes up next to a beautiful, perfect stranger, Jin-kyung. They are both perfectly confused and have absolutely to idea how they ended up in bed together. Regardless of what happened or what didn't happen, Dae-suh is struggling to do the right thing. Or shall we say, he is "forced" to do the right thing. You see, Jin-kyung, her three older brothers and her father are not your average, respectable Korean household - they just so happen o be one of the most powerful mob families in the country. Her father had always wanted to bring (in a legitimate way) prestige and honor to the family - and well, Dae-suh is the ticket. All Jin-kyung's brothers have to do is have these two perfect strangers fall in love.

Review [Marrying] The main problem with "Marrying the Mafia" is that sophomore writer/director Jeong Heun-sun fails to mine the full comic potential of the film's premise. While the film's first half does have a few laugh-out-loud moments, mostly centered around the inept attempts by Jang's family to break out of the 'gangster mold', they become fewer and less amusing as the film drags on towards the latter part of its overly long two-hour running time...Thankfully, the chemistry between Jung and Kim works most of the time, and serves as a good distraction from the otherwise scatterbrained story. Jung is charismatic as Park, though at times the limitations of the script cannot help but make his dialogue sound forced, such as during one of his dinner dates with Jang. Kim, with her big doe eyes and endearing smile, is quickly becoming one of the most popular actresses in South Korea, and she is quite affecting as Jang...Since the end of 2001, it seems that the gangster comedy genre has fallen on hard times. Eager to make money with jopok-infatuated moviegoers, the concept has been commoditized in an increasing number of narratively bankrupt and low-rent productions, such as "Boss X-File (Boss sangrokjakjeon)", "Jungle Juice", and "2424". While "Marrying the Mafia" does not sink to the depths of its these films, it is hardly remarkable either.

Review [Conduct] Being a comedy I should say whether or not it is actually funny. Well it is amusing in places. The humour is ridiculous which is the intention - a film featuring many situational and often fabricated moments that include heavy usage of CGI and wire tricks, Bruce Lee nods (yet again...) and surprisingly very little in terms of "gross out" material. I guess I should be thankful that it doesn't need to take this route. The trouble is that after the first couple of minutes in introducing Joong-pil the humour doesn't get much better. Like Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer we see bodies fly and superhuman activity, which is all very nice and does happen again at the half way point. Here and there are little moments that provide a chuckle but the film never gears up to provide bigger laughs...Conduct Zero is meant to be a film about a certain time in everyone's life, a point where we grew up and started to learn more about the important things in life. Its intentions are admirable, the execution isn't bad but in the end Conduct Zero is forgettable stuff and as far as its release here is concerned ADV have disappointed this reviewer.

Quotes
BeyondHollywood.com [Marrying] ...very funny. The hapless Dae-seo provides a lot of laughs as he's ushered to and fro by the gangsters.
Joel Pearce, DVD Verdict [Conduct] ...a giddy, loud, foul-mouthed, and ultimately touching comedy that feels both familiar and completely unique.
Joseph Luster, KFC Cinema [Conduct] ...a good, dumb comedy that's...a much more successful blend of comedy, drama, and a bit of action than most.
