ONE, country maverick Jim Lauderdale delivers yet another airtight collection of country songs that delve into the genre's honky-tonk past. While the aim might be old school, the results sound more like the neo-traditionalist approximations of early-1980s-era Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis. They are no slouches, and neither is Lauderdale--this being one of two simultaneously released full-lengths. Fans of straighter country and tired of the pop leanings of Shania Twain and Toby Keith would do well to give these "hits" a try. |
