great system, but 7.1 = overkill!
7.1 output seems to be new, with more than one industry standard for the output. The pins that should connect to the computer do not fit directly to a 7.1 output that comes with most desktop motherboards. The speakers are compatible with creative soundcards though. I have no problems with audigy sound blaster PCMCIA card. I bought the speakers thinking it would augment my movie watching experience. Unfortunately for me, most DVDs come with 5.1 (or even 2.1, like mp3 audio songs) rather than 7.1 audio. A gamer might like the 7.1 because most games output 7.1. If you are not going to be gaming (like me), I suggest any of the cheaper 5.1 speakers. For the excellent quality that has become synonymous with Creative, they should do something about the cables that run to each of the speakers- a lot to untangle with 7 speakers. It took me a while to figure out a spatial configuration for each of the speakers so that the cables dont come in the way.
