Author Bio
Roger Zelazny
Roger Zelazny, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, attended Western Reserve University, where he received a B.A. in English in 1959. In 1962, Zelazny completed his master's degree at Columbia University. For the next seven years, Zelazny worked as a Social Security claims representative and specialist. He also enlisted in the Army Reserve from 1963 to 1966, a period within which Zelazny was married to Sharon Steberl for two years. He later married Judith Callahan. The couple had three children. He earned fame in the 1960s as a prolific writer of science fiction and fantasy. During this era, his writing was classified as experimental or "new wave," a term coined by Judith Merril. As Zelazny continued to write, sometimes publishing under the pseudonym Harrison Denmark, his work gained higher and higher acclaim. He received the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards, and his book DOORWAYS IN THE SAND was selected for the 1976 American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults List. Zelazny continued to be a productive writer until his death in 1995.
