Cross of Iron
This movie was previously released on DVD but the quality was awful. This current release by Hen's Tooth Video is excellent. This is one of my favorite war movies of all time and is a triumph for Peckinpah, right up there with The Wild Bunch. The photography and Peckinpahs style of directing is cutting edge. The casting is perfect and this is probably James Coburns finest performance. Even though this movie is 30 years old it hasn't lost it's punch. It is a riveting account of a German rear gaurd unit fighting both the Russians and their Captain during the retreat along the Tamin Peninsula set in 1943. For any student of World War II or anyone that just enjoys war movies this movie is right up there with Saving Private Ryan or Farewell to the King.
