Meet my expectations4/24/2013
I have purchase this item to gain some performance and it looks like boot up speed and others are improved significantly. However, there is no fail-proof hardware, so I have used Samsung SSD to make it mirrored (so called, RAID 1) Hope the price lower in future with larger space
Brought New Life to an Old MacBook Pro2/19/2013
This is an awesome hard drive. Once I was introduced to the super speedy world of SSD drives, it is very hard to go back. This drive has brought new life to my aging MacBookPro. Easy to install and everything worked perfectly. Very quick shipping and great packaging also. Would definitely buy again.
Fast install once you figure out your old hdd10/26/2012
Cloned my existing nb hdd in 30 min. with the data transfer kit. No issues whatsoever. I pulled out my old hdd, then couldn't see how the ssd was going to fit. I reinstalled the old hdd, thinking I may have to return the ssd or get some sort of adapter. Searched internet for my 6-yr old laptop (HP-DV9040US) and found a part (drive bracket and adapter). Ding! Light bulb! Pulled the old hdd out again, and looked at the end of the drive bus .. pulled on it and it slid right off. Doh!!! I had an adapter already. Placed the new ssd into the bracket and slid the adapter on and reinstalled. Booted up laptop. Nice !!! as it only took about 20 secs to boot up when it took about 2 minutes before. Apps startup quicker too. SSD is the way to go. I suspect they'll get cheaper over time. Now thinking about upgrading main hdd on my 7 yr old desktop
Great performance, No negatives, Highly recommende6/27/2012
I purchased this 256 gig SSD to replace the 750 gig 7200 RPM hard drive in a new i7, SATA III (6 gig) HP DV7T laptop. I opted to pay a little more and get the transfer kit as it has a feature that automatically does the 4K alignment necessary when cloning a hard drive to a SSD (also, I have two desktops and two laptops and figured the cloning kit would come in handy in the future). The cloning disc worked fine and I removed the hard drive and installed the SSD. It powered right up (power on to desktop - Windows 7) in 26 seconds. I also noted that the SSD I received came with the latest firmware update. I ran the Crystal Disc Mark bench test and the 256 gig Crucial benched at 502 MB/s read and 251 MB/s write. Which is plenty fast. My battery life also improved by about 30 minutes. One program I use frequently took over 1 minute to load; now, it loads in 14 seconds flat. I called Crucial with a few questions and they were answered quickly by their excellent tech support team. I have had the M4 installed for about three months now and the SSDLife (free download) app shows that, at my current average usage rate, my M4 will last until June 28, 2021 (nine years). I'm certain I will have another laptop (with a Crucial SSD) long before then. So far, I have not encountered a single issue and would highly recommend the Crucial M4 series (in fact, I bought the 128 gig version for the OS on my desktop. Great performance. No negatives. Highly recommended.
If I could give this item 4.5 stars I would. Performance wise, it functions terrifically. It's ridiculously fast, and it's substantially lighter than a spinning HDD. I can actually feel the weight difference in my lenovo X220 laptop (your mileage may vary). My only complaint is that installation was not as smooth as it could be. My laptop can only accept 7mm high drives in the slot. The crucial drive can be modified to fit by removing the black plastic spacer band. I wish they had put this on the outside of the case like the Intel X25m. It was simple to unscrew the case and remove the spacer, but then the screws are too long. I shortened mine by cutting them with wire cutters. The screw metal was soft and this was easy to do, but it probably ruined any chance of returning the drive and it probably voided my warranty.
