Author Bio
H.A. Rey
Hans Augusto Reyersbach, later shortened to Rey, fought with the German army during World War I, after which he moved to Brazil. There he met and married Margaret Waldstein, an author and artist. The couple moved to Paris in 1936, but the Nazi invasion forced them to flee for the United States. Rey's first book, CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS, marked the first, very casual, appearance of his most famous character--Curious George. That character took the spotlight in the book CURIOUS GEORGE, which was published in 1941. In addition to his four books about Curious George, Rey also created such memorable characters as the extraordinarily long dachshund in PRETZEL and the resourceful kangaroo in KATY NO POCKETS. Since H. A. Rey died, his wife Margaret Rey and an illustrator working in H. A. Rey's style have created several more books featuring Curious George.Hans Augusto Reyersbach, later shortened to Rey, fought with the German army during World War I, after which he moved to Brazil.
