The zoo is the perfect place for a curious little monkey to make mischief and new friends! George is going to visit a new kind of zoo where the animals all roam free. Some of those animals look like a lot of fun?so much fun that a curious monkey can't resist joining them. Giraffes and flamingos are close enough to touch, but George befriends a baby rhino who seems a little sad. Who better to lure her from her hiding place than George? And just in time for her special birthday party!
Hans Augusto Reyersbach, later shortened to Rey, fought with the German army during World War I, after which he moved to Brazil. There he met and married Margaret Waldstein, an author and artist. The couple moved to Paris in 1936, but the Nazi invasion forced them to flee for the United States. Rey's first book, CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS, marked the first, very casual, appearance of his most famous character--Curious George. That character took the spotlight in the book CURIOUS GEORGE, which was published in 1941. In addition to his four books about Curious George, Rey also created such memorable characters as the extraordinarily long dachshund in PRETZEL and the resourceful kangaroo in KATY NO POCKETS. Since H. A. Rey died, his wife Margaret Rey and an illustrator working in H. A. Rey's style have created several more books featuring Curious George.
