Annotation:
Curious George is a monkey whose curiosity is as boundless as his capacity for getting into trouble and more trouble. Fortunately, he manages to get out of it, often with the help of his friend, the Man in the Yellow Hat. This is the first in a series of picture books to feature the mischievous monkey. Color illustrations accompany the text. One of the most popular characters in children's literature, Curious George is a young monkey whose enthusiasm for life often mirrors that of a typical preschooler. George's tale begins in Africa, where his curiosity leads to his first encounter with the friendly, but always unnamed, man in the big yellow hat. Captured and adopted by the man, George and he then sail to the United State where the man plans to find him a comfortable home at the city zoo. However, before he can relocate to his new home, George's boundless curiosity gets him into a lot of trouble. Will George's naughty behavior separate him from the man in the big yellow hat forever? This is the first in a series of picture books to feature the mischievous monkey, who also appears in such other works as CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE HOSPITAL, CURIOUS GEORGE LEARNS THE ALPHABET, and CURIOUS GEORGE TAKES A JOB.

Author Bio
Hans Augusto Rey
Hans Augusto Reyersbach, later shortened to Rey, fought with the German army during World War I, after which he moved to Brazil. There he met and married Margaret Waldstein, an author and artist. The couple moved to Paris in 1936, but the Nazi invasion forced them to flee for the United States. Rey's first book, CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS, marked the first, very casual, appearance of his most famous character--Curious George. That character took the spotlight in the book CURIOUS GEORGE, which was published in 1941. In addition to his four books about Curious George, Rey also created such memorable characters as the extraordinarily long dachshund in PRETZEL and the resourceful kangaroo in KATY NO POCKETS. Since H. A. Rey died, his wife Margaret Rey and an illustrator working in H. A. Rey's style have created several more books featuring Curious George.
