Ease of Use

This is my first wireless router and I connected my Mac Powerbook without real problems. The setup wizard on the enclosed CD-ROM won't run on a Mac but I opened the quick installation guide pdf and followed the instructions. It was pretty straightforward and I was connected in minutes to my Earthlink DSL modem, setting WPA encryption and turning MAC address filtering on. Then I connected via my Airport card and couldn't get through at first until I realized that the Airport card has a different MAC address from the Ethernet card in my Powerbook. Once I added that MAC address into the router, I got in without a hitch and it works like a charm.

I had the same problem as many other people with this product at the beggining. The router kept on disconecting me every few hours. I spoke with the D-link customer support people and they weren't help the fist time I talked to them. On the second try I got help from someone who actually knew what he was doing. The reason why the router kept on disconecting/dropping the signal was because both the router and the modem(DSL) had the same IP address, so they were both trying to connect with the same address and that's why it kept on disconecting. All you have to do is assign a different address to the wireless router and that will solve all your problems. The D-link customer people should be able to walk you through the process of changing the ip address of your wireless router. Ever since they helped me change the ip address, it has worked great, the signal doesn't drop and it stays connected without dropping the signal!

There are better products out there

I've obtained this thing from my wife (newlyweds), and we are now in the market for something else. The unit is very slow, with limited range (<30ft from where our laptop sits and it disconnects half the time). At this point, I would have spent less time crawling underneath the house to run CAT-5 cable than I have spent trying to get this thing to work consistently. 54MBs? Yeah right - maybe with 95% overhead and 5% usable bandwidth. There are better units out there, so don't waste your time with this junk.

works great; reliable

I bought this router in March of 2006 and am using it ever since. It works great; breeze to setup and privatize your network if you are a bit computer savvy. I didnt have any signal drop issues for the length of the time I have used it; the only 3 times when the router seemed to be locked up (All the lights go ON) is when there was a power spike. At peak, atleast 3 laptops connected to this router wirelessly and 2 more via LAN. The speed seemed to take a hit only when all of us were downloading huge files simultaneously, but thats understandable I guess. Overall, works great; very reliable; havent had an issue yet (touch wood).
