Lives Up To Expectations on Vista 64 Bit System. P
This product claims to have speeds up to "14x faster than wireless G" and buyers should be forewarned that you aren't going to get that kind of performance improvement. You will, however, see about a 5-6x performance improvement with the right supporting hardware which is nothing to shake a stick at! To complement the adapter, I have a D-Link DIR-655 "Extreme N" router and connect at 270 Mbps in mixed G/N mode vs. only 54Mbps with an older wireless G adapter! Transfering large media files over the wireless network is measurably faster by order of magnitude, and the unit even comes with a cool little USB stand to plug the adapter in for situations where you don't want this thick USB device sticking directly out of a USB port. The big negatives are D-Link support who didn't seem to understand my email and gave me inaccurate information about the availability of a 64-bit driver (there is one that both ships with the product and one downloadable from the D-Link website, FYI) and the fact that the USB adapter doesn't seem to always start properly when you restart Windows (you have to unplug it, then plug it back in). All in all this is a great adapter. I can't wait to get a dual-band gateway set up so I can take advantage of the 5ghz signal for some HD streaming!
