A must read for Fantasy lovers

by Anne on 8/17/2002

Daggerspell is the first in a long line of amazing books by Katherine Kerr. If you enjoy reading fantasy or are entrigued by Celtic fable then this series is a must. Once you start reading, it is hard to stop. The central figure in the story is that of Nevyn (or 'no one'), doomed to walk the earth, immortal, until he can right the wrongs he has done. You return to Nevyn's youth and meet many of the central characters of the story, watch their deaths, and discover them again as new characters centuries later - new people, but old souls. Nevyn must find a way to stop the triangle of love and death that binds these characters but each generation brings new twists and turns. An exciting read, beautifully written.. you can't help but read the entire series! Read More

Author Info
Katharine Kerr
Katharine Kerr was born into a well-to-do Cleveland family, that she says, "considers itself to be British-in-exile far more than American." While she was still in school, her family moved to Santa Barbara, where she stayed until she was 18, when she moved to San Francisco, where she has lived ever since. She attended Stanford, before dropping out to independently read everything from archeology and medieval history to modern literature. Running into an old high-school friend, they rekindled their friendship and eventually married in 1973. The turning event in her life was when a friend gave her a role-playing game, which so inspired her that she became a writer for gaming magazines, eventually actually creating the games themselves. Kerr's first novel was 1986s DAGGERSPELL, the first book in the Deverry series. Since then, she has written mostly fantasy novels, with a few science fiction ones for good measure. She has also delved into the world of the Internet with her own website, full of samples from books she is working on, nonfiction diatribes on a variety of topics, and even a discussion of the rather complex timeline in the Deverry series.
From the Publisher
Annotation In the first book of the Deverry series, a young girl must reconcile her half-dreamed friendship with the Wildfolk and the 400-year-old legacy of the death of a pair of innocent lovers.
Editors Note Even as a young girl, Jill was a favorite of the magical, mysterious Wildfolk, who appeared to her from their invisible realm. Little did she know her extraordinary friends represented but a glimpse of a forgotten past and a fateful future. Four hundred years-and many lifetimes-ago, one selfish young lord caused the death of two innocent lovers. Then and there he vowed never to rest until he'd rightened that wrong-and laid the foundation for the lives of Jill and all those whom she would hold dear: her father, the mercenary soldier Cullyn; the exiled berserker Rhodry Maelwaedd; and the ancient and powerful herbman Nevyn, all bound in a struggle against darkness. . . and a quest to fulfill the destinies determined centuries ago. Here in this newly revised edition comes the incredible novel that began one of the best-loved fantasy seers in recent years--a tale of bold adventure and timeless love, perilous battle and pure magic. For long-standing fans of Deverry and those who have yet to experience this exciting series, Daggerspell is a rare and special treat.
Editors Note 2 Jill; her father, the mercenary soldier, Cullyn; the exiled berserker Rhodry Maelwaedd; and the herbman Nevyn are all bound together in an ages-old struggle against darkness. By the author of Days of Blood and Fire. Reprint.
