Excellent Disaster Film
In the film, a volcanologist discovers that the picturesque town of Dante's Peak, which has recently been named the second most desirable place to live in America, is being threatened by a massive volcano that has been dormant for the past four years. "Dante's Peak" is incredibly superior to the slew of disaster flicks that have been released since the monster success of "Twister." Yes, the plot is nothing original, but the film is fueled by very believable performances and first-rate effects. It is constantly compared to "Volcano," which hit theaters shortly after "Dante's Peak." "Volcano" features talented actors, but has cheesy-looking effects and a very contrived ending. In my opinion, comparing these two films is insane, as "Dante's Peak" is easily much better than "Volcano." In short, "Dante's Peak" is worth the rental price at least, and should not be overlooked. It is a great film with strong acting and the most realistic effects since "Twister."
