From the start, I was inspired by Izabella Barna's determination. As I read furher into the novel, I always stopped and thought about how this fourteen year old girl, who acted like a grown woman, could be so courageous. At times I wanted to have what Izabella had. I wanted her motivation and he strength. Even though at the beginning she seemed very much like a rebellious brat who didn't want to listen to anyone's advice, she had a cause and was never planning to stop. At times, you can't help but sympathize with this young girl who only has the security of her finger on the trigger of a machine gun. Before reading this novel, which is actually a work of historical fiction, I had no clue about the Hungarian Revolution. I didn't even know there was a Hungarian Revolution, bu this book opened my eyes to see the experience of this young girl. Many take their rich lives for granted, but when we read about a real girl like Izabella fighting for freedom, our hearts are torn up. As I read, I wanted to be there with Izabella. I felt like I wanted to hold her hand, run my fingers throgh her hair, wipe her tears and tell her that everything will turn out right in the end. Sometimes I would think as if I were in Izabella's shoes. What would you do if everything you loved was suddenly stripped away by communists or terrorists fighting a war that's not even yours? Could Iever be like Izabella Barna, courageous and strong, fighting until the very end in those times of need? I hope so. I hope we could all always be daughters or sons of the revolution, when ur times come.
