Editor's NoteWith THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, director Roland Emmerich (INDEPENDENCE DAY, GODZILLA) trades evil aliens and radioactive lizards in for some seriously bad weather. When a radical change in the temperature of the world's oceans causes deadly storms and sets a new Ice Age in motion, climatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) must race from Washington D.C. to save his son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal), in the subzero climes of New York City. Elsewhere, tornadoes and hail menace the globe, leading to international disasters on an extraordinary level.Emmerich, who has proven to be a master of big-budget cinematic destruction on numerous occasions, aims to outdo himself with THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. Here entire cities are ripped apart, flooded, and/or frozen, adding up to one of the biggest disaster movies ever filmed. Although astonishingly rendered special effects rule the movie, adept actors such as Quaid and Gyllenhaal (along with Sela Ward, Ian Holm, Emmy Rossum, and others) turn in solid performances that help to balance out the meteorological mayhem. Surprisingly, Emmerich also uses the film as a vehicle for clever moments of social and political commentary, making THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW admirably smarter and considerably more entertaining than typical Hollywood blockbusters.

Customer Reviews of Day After Tomorrow (Blu-ray)
Scientifically, this movie is absolutely laughable. However, the great special effects allow us to ignore that and enjoy what it would look like if mother nature unleashed her wrath all at once. That pretty much sums up the plot, besides a decent cast of the characters led by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Fun to watch5/24/2012
The Day After Tomorrow was fun to watch. It wasn't exceptionally fantastic but it was cool to watch. Some of the scenes were really amazing and breath taking, but some of the scenes could have been enhanced a little more. The plot wasn't very entertaining and the acting wasn't great, but it was fun to watch,
Amazing effects !!!5/12/2012
The Day After Tomorrow has some of the most amazing special effects I've ever seen. The cast does an amazing job with what they have to work with,(Quaid and Gyllenhaal do a wonderful job as well as new comer Emmy Rossum). It does have some pretty funny moments as well,( Americans crossing into Mexico illegaly.) The script could be better as well as some parts of the story line. Altogether though it is a wonderful movie that I would recomend.
Who doesn't like a good disaster film.3/31/2012
You will see a standard disaster movie, like many that have come before it. This time, global warming is the culprit. Silly me, I thought global warming would make things hot, but it cracks the polar ice cap and makes things cold, as it brings giant tornado destruction to Los Angeles, grapefruit-size hail in Tokyo, and a monster tidal wave that engulfs Manhattan. The water then freezes, turning Manhattan into an arctic place. The human action doesn't contribute much to the story, but the disaster scenes make it all worth watching, as long as you don't take any of it seriously. This is a nice movie to watch if you just want to relax.
