From the Publisher:
In this two-part chapter book based on the popular TV series Martha Speaks, Martha must use her doggie detective skills to keep Wagstaff City safe. First, Martha becomes a patrol dog for a day and uncovers a plot to smuggle rutabagas containing insects that could destroy the crops in the city. After dealing with one crook, Martha joins Helen when she decides she wants to be a detective, just like Helen's favorite book character Curious Crystal. When Helen and Martha find out about a slew of robberies in town, they must use their clues and detective skills to sniff out the thief's identity. Will they solve the mystery before the thief strikes again? Includes a glossary of fun, new vocabulary.
Author and illustrator Susan Meddaugh is best known for her picture books about Martha--a feisty dog who develops the ability to speak after eating a can of alphabet soup. After graduating from Wheaton College, Meddaugh moved to Boston where she became a designer of children's books at Houghton Mifflin. As she helped bring the works of other authors and illustrators to life, Meddaugh was inspired to create her own books for children. Her first book, TOO SHORT FRED, was published in 1978. Meddaugh's most famous character, Martha, was inspired by her own pet dog.
