The market for small, low-end voice processing systems is a fast-growing segment of the industry. With the Prelude series from Brooktrout Technology, developers have the ability to build voice systems based on "miniature" PC architecture, reducing overall costs while maintaining full voice processing functionality. Like all Brooktrout Technology Products, the Prelude series features Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, and a full line of software algorithms and utilities for smooth, easy system development. The Prelude series includes the four-port Quartet, and a two-port version, called Duet. The Brooktrout Technology Prelude series voice processing platforms are half-size PC/XT/AT-compatible voice processing boards. Prelude voice platforms conform to a PC half-size form factor through state-of-the-art surface mount technology. The boards have an 8-bit interface and support the MS-DOS operating system. The Quartet and Duet platforms are compatible with PC/XT/AT 8088, 286, 386, 486 and Pentium class ISA-bus-compatible host systems. Configuration options such as the segment address, software interrupts, and buffer sizes are set by software through parameters contained in an ASCII file or the user's application software. Each Quartet or Duet port has a loop start interface capable of detecting in-coming ring and loop current drop with on/off hook capability under program control. The Quartet platform also includes an announcement- or music-on-hold connector on channel four for external audio equipment.
