Review You've certainly got to hand it to Channell and the rest of the people involved with Die And Let Live. You can tell they were having a ton of fun making it and it shows. While the story is a tad bit thin and the soundtrack is too packed with indie bands who let them use their music for free, Lively and Crosby maintain the same vibe they did in Raising and this time they even help Channell co-write the script which results in even more outrageous and amusing dialogue snippets and wacky characters. You can tell that there was absolutely no intention here to be anything but goofy and it is in spades -- but judging by Crosby's fairly well done make-up effects and the opening it's possible Channell and crew may be able to pull off a "real" horror flick sometime in the near future...Lloyd Kaufman makes his usual no-budget flick cameo and Trent Haaga (one of my favourite indie actors) has a brief role as a Military captain, but the rest of the young, amateur cast does pretty well with the material...Overall, Die And Let Live is an agreeable horror-comedy. I did enjoy Raising a tiny bit more (perhaps because it had a better story flow) and they use the "screaming" joke a few too many times, but generally this is an entertaining effort that offers such silliness as a playground sequence and a Vietnam riff on Forrest Gump -- so it can't be all that bad.

Review Take Kevin Smith and Sam Raimi, put them both in a mixer and shake well, strain out the solid bits and pour. This serves as many as can take it. That is what Die and Let Live is like. It is a comedy horror film that features such things as a mad attempt to save pizza, dolphin encrusted friendship necklaces, some party dudes, a healthy dose of blood, and an appearance by Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman. What else do you need?...When you watch a low budget movie you cannot go in expecting a Hollywood style film. You have to recognize that those behind it are likely amateurs working on their first feature, or a bunch of friends that want to see if they can make a movie. The work is not going to be anywhere near the A-list, B-list, or even D-list. This being the case, it is really easy to watch something like Die and Let Live and just rip it to shreds. Honestly, it would not be that hard. The problem then is that you are not giving the movie, or those involved enough credit...I like this movie. It is nothing original, but it is filled with an infectious, manic energy that is near impossible to ignore. It borrows from the best the genres have to offer and blend them in a way that makes this low budget outing flat out fun. It is also interesting to note that the majority of those involved were under the age of 20 when this was in production.
