Expert Review Die Hard 2: Die Harder - DVD Review

Die Hard 2 or as I clearly remember it, Die Harder is no match for the original. It's not even a match for the third part in the series. But it's still an effective actioner from an era where every other film was described as "Die Hard in a ----" fill in the blank. This could be seen as one of them, "Die Hard in an Airport" and for all of its flaws it still delivers a well crafted action film with the same kind of irreverent tone as the original. the full review

Professional Reviews

Rolling Stone
"...Impressively made..." 08/09/1990 p.37

New York Times
"...Outrageous ambition, high-tech sophistication and sheer unbridled firepower....The heart and soul of the new film is Bruce Willis..." 07/03/1990 p.C11

ReelViews 9 of 10
It's rare that the sequel to a good movie lives up to expectations. Such is the case with Die Hard 2, the somewhat-muddled but still entertaining return of Bruce Willis' John McClane. Fortunately, the original Die Hard was good enough that there's room for the second installment to be enjoyable while still not matching the pace or possessing the flair of its predecessor...Die Hard 2 is, in the final analysis, a worthwhile action film, but it doesn't deliver nearly as much as the first Die Hard. Nevertheless, those who enjoyed spending a couple hours with John McClane atop the Los Angeles skyline will find much to savor about this outing. It's not as crisply directed, and the plot holes are easier to find, but Die Hard 2 is filled with the same sense of good-natured, wisecracking fun that infused the original. This is one sequel where deja vu doesn't necessarily mean a rehash of what went before. - James Berardinelli

DVD Verdict 9 of 10
In 1988, McClane had a bad night when he had to save the Nakatomi building and its hostages from certain destruction in the original Die Hard. This time around, McClane is on the defense as he battles a new band of terrorists in the land of politics and principles...I love the first Die Hard. I also loved Die Hard 2: Die Harder. These films contain such zippy energy that it's hard to believe that anyone other than the Pope and the Quakers wouldn't like it. Like the first film, Die Hard 2: Die Harder moves along at a speedy pace and always keeps the viewer involved...Die Hard 2: Die Harder is an extraordinarily good action movie...Suspension of disbelief is the key, and if you keep that in mind, you're going to end up having a blast with Die Hard 2: Die Harder. - Patrick Naugle
