Product Overview

In the high-rise, high-stakes action thriller that raised the bar for the genre, superstar Bruce Willis rocks as New York City detective John McClane, who's in Los Angeles to spend the holidays with his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia). But while McClane waits for Holly's office party to end, terrorists take control of the building. As their sinister leader, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), and his savage henchman (Alexander Godunov) round up hostages, McClane gets ready to blast a few rounds of his own and launch a one-man war – as only McClane can!

Review [Die Hard] Die Hard represents the class of modern action pictures and the standard by which they must be judged. Few films falling into the "mindless entertainment" genre have as much going for them as this movie. Not only is it a thrill-a-minute ride, but it has one of the best film villains in recent memory, a hero everyone can relate to, dialogue that crackles with wit, and a lot of very impressive pyrotechnics...Whether Bruce Willis is climbing up an elevator shaft, throwing himself off an exploding building, or racing barefoot across a flood littered with glass shards, his John McClane holds our attention while we hold our breaths. Die Hard isn't motion picture poetry, but it shows the kind of raucous entertainment that the industry is capable of delivering. For what it is, this is the top model -- flash, bang, and witty one-liners all included. Yippee kiyay!

Review [Live Free] "A Timex watch in a digital age," sneers villainous Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant, Deadwood's sheriff no more) of New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) in Live Free or Die Hard, the exhilarating fourth installment in the Die Hard series, the first since 1995's Die Hard: With a Vengeance. Willis was barely 40 then, he's past 50 now, but the only thing he has lost is the rest of his hair. And Gabriel is right, McClane is a relic from an analog world, but he also forgets the Timex advertising slogan: It takes a licking but keeps on ticking, and so--gloriously--does McClane...Sequels can be such a crap shoot, as this summer's disasters Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Evan Almighty have only too horribly demonstrated. But Willis, in gambling that he could successfully revisit the character that made him a true action hero, rolls nothing but sevens. Live Free or Die Hard's plot may be built on a flimsy house of cards that will not bear close inspection, but that character, John McClane, provides the movie with a solid foundation. This is action at its most entertaining and proof that there is a lot of life left in this franchise.

Review [Die Harder] In 1988, McClane had a bad night when he had to save the Nakatomi building and its hostages from certain destruction in the original Die Hard. This time around, McClane is on the defense as he battles a new band of terrorists in the land of politics and principles...I love the first Die Hard. I also loved Die Hard 2: Die Harder. These films contain such zippy energy that it's hard to believe that anyone other than the Pope and the Quakers wouldn't like it. Like the first film, Die Hard 2: Die Harder moves along at a speedy pace and always keeps the viewer involved...Die Hard 2: Die Harder is an extraordinarily good action movie...Suspension of disbelief is the key, and if you keep that in mind, you're going to end up having a blast with Die Hard 2: Die Harder.
