Author Bio
Frances Moore Lappe
If anyone embodies the "?think globally, act locally" philosophy of the environmental movement, it is Frances Moore Lappé, who has been in the forefront of the discussion since the publication of her groundbreaking classic, DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET in 1971. Lappe has worked tirelessly to promote a greater awareness of the key issues of democracy--poverty, food distribution, and corporate greed. Through the Small Planet Institute, she and her colleagues have assiduously promoted new ideas and discussion, generated money, and established activities to make the world a better place. Lappé has received speaking engagements from numerous universities and written many articles in both the print media and on websites such as AlterNet and the Huffington Post. In 2008, her book GETTING A GRIP addressed the need to "fight our core assumptions" about power and politics, and to take local actions for a better world.
