Bought a Dyson Refurbished for about half pice2/17/2014
It's a solid deal.

Missing tangle free attachment. Had to thoroughly clean unit bc large amount of human and pet hair was coiled around vacuum bristles.
Invest in a repair shop before buying.3/25/2013
I've owned one of these things for about three years. During that time, it has been in the shop for repair 6 times, mostly with the beater section being the problem. If this machine happens to pull a thread from the carpet, it shreads the over-priced and difficult to install drive belt instantly. The cog wheel which turns the belt is so poorly designed that these belts have to be replaced about every hour and a half of use time. I've grown to hate this machine worse than anything I've ever owned, and recently replaced it with a refurbished little Hoover which is lightyears more reliable and actually cleans the carpets better. Don't buy a Dyson. It's heavy on advertisement and short on engineering. You may 'get what you pay for' most of the time, but not with this expensive hemmorhoid of a vacuum cleaner.
Have a Dyson upright that is about 6 years old, so we were expecting very good to excellent results. We liked the HEPA filtration of our old vacuum, but when my wife questioned Dyson about this machine she got the run-around as it is apparently not a true HEPA filter (it can be washed with water which was odd). More than that, bare floor performance was awful. It would not even pick up a couple pieces of dry cat food. The pieces would just fall out of the machine when it was turned off. Wife complained that is was difficult to maneuver. Carpet performance was very good however. Animal attachment was sub-par. When trying to vacuum off our cat tree, hair just accumulated on the entrance to the tool and was not sucked in. Pretty much worthless for our use. Other attachments were flimsy and cheap (we like our older Dyson attachments better). Overall pretty disappointed and had to return it. Considering a Eureka to replace it (at less than half the price).
