Great...but with a few caveats! Pro User
I'm a professional video guy. I do commercials, corporate video, weddings, training DVD's and things like that. To be able to quickly encoded h.264 video from Apple Prores HD files (what most of my work is done in) is something I've dreamed of as using my usual techniques (Compressor, Sorrenson, Episode and the like) can take overnight for a 45 minute file. This device works as advertised as far as the speed goes. It's sometimes faster than realtime! The issue is that the end result quality isn't nearly as nice as using the pro software methods. Especially using the presets! I've found though, after some research and reading the message boards, that if you tweak the settings quite a bit, you can get a very nice encode from it. Still in real time or better! Gotta learn how to work in the advanced settings for sure. Especially if you're original file is a proprietary Apple, Avid, Premiere or any codec like that. All in all, I'd recommend this item as it's worth the money if just one job goes quicker! If you're looking for something to do quick rushes or consumer stuff, this will rock your world. If you're looking for more pro quality, you'll have to work on the settings quite a bit. Oh, and it does this as a one pass encode so keep that in mind.
