Emily's Art (Paperback)
|"What a gorgeous painting," exclaimed the judge of Ms. Fair''s first-grade art contest. "What a beautiful rabbit!" |
For Emily, the words are a shock.
Her painting is of her dog, Thor. Not a rabbit.
But instead of thinking: "What''s wrong with this judge?" Emily takes the words, and the judgment, to heart.
Just as she takes her art.
Not everyone, not Ms. Fair, or even Emily''s best friend, Kelly, can see that.
From the Publisher:
Emily takes her painting seriously and so is thrilled to enter her unique artwork into the schoolwide art contest, but when the judge becomes a harsh critic and totally misunderstands her creativity, Emily feels as though she will never paint again until a friend helps her regain her passion once more. Reprint.
A first-grader named Emily is nervous when her teacher announces that the class will be holding an art contest--and that the winner will be selected by a judge. Emily wonders how the judge will know which entry is the best, but nevertheless creates a painting to enter in the contest. When the judge selects Emily's painting of her dog, Thor, as the winner, Emily is confused--the judge thinks Thor is a rabbit. When Emily informs the judge of her mistake, the judge takes away the prize--because she likes rabbits but hates dogs. Emily is discouraged and says she'll never paint again. Will anyone be able to revive Emily's love of painting? Watercolor and acrylic paintings accompany the text.
