Enemy of the State (1998)
|When successful labor lawyer robert clayton dean has a chance meeting with an old pal, he has no idea the trouble he's about to encounter. He later discovers his pal has secretly slipped him a disc containing footage of a hidden political assassination overseen by the senior advisor to the nsa.|
Editor's NoteRobert Dean (Will Smith) is a labor lawyer who is unknowingly in possession of evidence related to a serious politically motivated crime. Government agents eager to hide their guilt believe that Dean is on to them, and proceed to turn his life upside-down, ruin his reputation, and frame him for various incidents, thanks to the latest in high-tech government surveillance techniques. In an attempt to clear his name and reclaim his life, Dean teams up with the reclusive Brill (Gene Hackman), a former federal employee who has as much high-tech equipment and expertise as the government itself. Hackman's role is an extension of Harry Caul, the character he portrayed in Francis Ford Coppola's brilliant 1974 film, THE CONVERSATION. Smith scores as a man who is desperate to reclaim his identity and prove his innocence. This intense technological thrill-ride from director Tony Scott questions how much access the government should have to the communications of private citizens, and leaves the viewer with the unsettling feeling that Big Brother is definitely watching. Watch for the uncredited appearances of Jason Robards, Seth Green, Tom Sizemore, and Philip Baker Hall.

Kick *ss Flick11/26/1999
This movie was kick *ss from start to end. The action and plot never ended, demanding your attention till the end!! One of the best for '99 without a doubt:)
This movie was superb! The chase scenes were exciting. The acting was great. The surveillance technology was interesting and posed the question of exactly how much privacy does the average citizen actually possess. The characters were also well defined and interesting. I highly recommend this film.

An Awakening Of Our Government8/10/1999
This film will make you think about how secure your life really is. It will open your eyes to the reality of the power and influence our government has risen to. See this one for a true picture of how our lives will be unless we take away the power's of the U.S. Government.
Gene Hackman still has what it takes .7/27/1999
this movie believe it or not kept me on the edge of my chair all through it. I have to give Will Smith a two thumbs up for his fantastic acting performance and of course Mr. Hackman who in my opinion is one of the better acters I've seen.
This is one of the best movies I ever watched! Get it!
Strong Acting and Cinematography Help Weak Plot7/26/1999
Hackman, Smith, and Voight turn in credible performances despite a somewhat far-fetched plot. Great visual and audio effects also add value to the movie, which, at times, is quite thrilling, if you can suspend your disbelief. Be warned, some 'featured' actors such as Jason Lee and Gabriel Byrne have little more than cameo appearences in this movie. Overall, this movie is above-average action fare, and deserves credit for its strong entertainment value in such a heavily-populated genre.
Gene Hackman does a great job! So does Will Smith. Great action definetly recommend!
A Must See,Hold On To Your Seat Thriller !!!7/25/1999
I Do'nt Know If It Can Happen In Real Life But You Got To Give Them Credit For The Story. It Was Brilliantly Wrote,Directed ,And Produced. One Of My Favorite Movie Of All-Time,Best Since THE PEACEMAKER And THE X-FILES.
Kind of lame7/24/1999
So much utter bull in this movie. You can't rotate 75 degrees around anything from one still image! Instant wireframes of buildings while tracking a person inside!? This film is an insult to any intelligent person's intelligence. This movie might have been good if there were any realism to it.
This movie is one for the ages! All the technonlogy in this movie is scarry. The acting is exceptional especially Will Smith.
BEST Will Smith movie yet!7/15/1999
