Good scans, but buggy & unprofessional9/9/2012
- Scans look really good, at least so far. - Installation went well. - The buttons on the scanner don't seem to work (except the power button). The PDF button worked once too, but it took so long (I'm guessing 30 seconds) before there was any response, that I had given up. Then I tried each button, allowing 60 seconds for a response before giving up. - When I tried to search the manual, I got an error message in my browser, and no result. I looked online for a PDF manual, and couldn't find one. Apparently it's HTML only, and you can only search within one page, using your browser's search. - Warm-up time is 5 seconds (ads say "instant"). - Time to scan a one-page utility bill at 300 DPI was 35 seconds, including warm-up. 40 seconds if you include the time it takes to get back in position for the next scan.
It's what I wanted8/8/2012
Just wanted to get 35mm negatives scanned with enough resolution for an 8x10. Color looks pretty good.
A beautiful scanner7/3/2012
Either scanners have come a long way since my old Visioneer 8920, or Epson has the market nailed. LED technology warms up in seconds, and the buttons are all conveniently grouped together--even the on/off switch is easily accessible. But it's the software that really makes this scanner stand out. Everything you might want to do on a routine basis can be done with the press of one button. I love this scanner! Far and away the best I've ever used.
Happy with the purchase6/14/2012
It performs well and flawlessly enacts every facet of its capabilities such as scanning slides or large documents in addition to photos of course.
Great scanner !6/5/2012
For the price, this scanner can't be beat. Easy to set up, includes a transparency holder for negatives and slides, Epson software is not too bloated or wacky, works quickly, results are solid.
The scanner was easy to setup. I have scanned slides and negative with great results. Using a photo brush to clean any dust of the slides and negatives first helps with quality of the scan. I would recommend this product to others.
Not For Slides or Negatives Larger than 35mm5/26/2011
The V300 scanner performs very well. However, the slide/negative feature will only scan 35mm format film. You will not be able to scan larger negative/slide sizes such as medium format. If you have slides/negatives larger than 35mm, you will need a Model 4490 or above that states it can also scan medium format. If you only need to scan 35mm format film, the V300 scans that format very well.
This is a great scanner for the money. I have hundreds of slides and negatives I've collected over the years of me children and my days in the Navy and decided to save them on my Mac. I have an older Epson, but not Mac compatible. I decided to get this one and am not one bit dissatisfied with it. I am especially happy with it being able to scan four slides as opposed to two with my older one. I would recommend this scanner.
I was looking at the slide only scanners when I saw this one. Not satisified with my old flatbed scanner, I decided to buy the V300. Set up and operation is easy, scanned 1,000 slides over a 2 day period. It takes about 4-5 minutes to do 4 slides at a time, but during that time, I edited the previous 4 scanned. My daughter brought her negatives and scanned also. Very pleased with the quality of reproduction.
I bought this for an extremely limited purpose: to create a PowerPoint slideshow from picture that were in picture albums. Some of the pictures were around 50 years old. Set up was easy. Operation was extremely easy. The only glich was that I had to get used to the orientation of the pics on flatbed so that they would not scan upside down. I still had to re-scan some of them. Enhancement of color of faded pics was great. The scans were quick & easy. Just remember my limited purpose.
Great scanner at any price!6/8/2010
I was more than a little impressed with the quality and ease of use. I have 2 Canon scanners and 2 HP scanners that all cost more than this and they don't hold a candle to the speed and results of this Epson scanner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Good quality for low price3/17/2010
I make use of Epson V200 Photo Scanner for a long time and now purchase an advanced model V300. No complaints at all. Good quality for low price in documents, pictures and negatives scans. Easy of use and very reliable. Good impression of Buy.com in purchase and delivery on time.
Works so good espically with slides and film negs! A must have if you have old film or slides! Great job Epson.
This scanner works great for my photos. I even use it with success to scan CD album artwork for iTunes. I use the manual scan for this purpose so I can set the options I need to clean the artwork and get the best resolution for my purposes. One cool part is laying multiple photos on the scanner and it can see that there are multiple photos and will scan each one individually. Big time save. Great scanner. I've always like Epson scanners.
Great scanner, great price!3/28/2009
This scanner came highly recommended and I can confirm it is a great scanner. One downside - I had problems scanning slides. Sent a note to Epson and was concerned it was damaged, but after further research and cleaning the scanner, the problem was resolved. Epson was of little help, which is a concern to me - this is my first Epson product. Keep the surface clean, especially for scanning slides. Loading the software and using the software is cake - have to play around a little, but it's simple once you get the hang of it. I have Vista 64 bit and had no problems getting the scanner functioning.
Great for the Money3/22/2009
I wanted this scanner as the reviews says light weight and good performance. I am into genealogy and just today I took it with my lap top out to my in-laws to scan photos. It did great-fast and even lightened up old photos so you could see them better. Great product and great price.
This is it!!3/17/2009
If you are thinking of a scanner, stop looking and buy this one. It really is great. For the negative scanning alone I would give it 5 stars. I am genuinely thrilled with this product. The negative scanning is simple too. Plus it has lots of other great features. The price cannot be beat. At twice the price it would still be a great buy!
very easy to use. great price
Great for the money2/22/2009
Scanner technology has come a long way. This unit is smaller, lighter and better performing than an HP Scanjet scanner circa 2000 that cost $800+. The software is easy to use and allows for easy or advanced usage. Made excellent scans of numerous old photos that had accumulated over the years. Have a Plustek slide scanner, so did not test this feature.
Epson V300 photo scanner2/13/2009
I scanned some old slides from the 60's. Came out exceptionally clear. Easy to use on my Mac Laptop Version 10.6
The machine is very easy to set up and a snap to use. After looking at similar scanners at higher prices I am completly satisfied. I have Vista and sometimes things just don't set up well but everything in this case was great.
VERY GOOD VALUE1/18/2009
Set up was easy. Software loaded without any problems. Scans documents and pictures very easily and exceptionally well. Very pleased with this purchase. Well worth the price paid.
Fast and very easy to use.12/9/2008
I have had several flatbed scanners plus film scanners. This one does a good job at what it is designed for. Since I have a dedicated film scanner, I didn't use that feature in this scanner because they just can't compare with a true film scanner. I had a Canon lIde scanner prior to this, and it died. It was OK up to that point, but I opted for Epson this time (obviously.) The resolution of the Canon just wasn't there. That being said, it takes less than 1 minute to do a full page scan at 600dpi. The results are nice and crisp, and you do have some options right in the scanner interface to help tweak things before your scan even gets written out to a file. The software can be switched from "I'm a complete newbie at this" to "Get out of my way and let me scan!" modes. There are also some settings in between. If you want a full-blown scanning utility, check out VueScan by Ed Hamrick. It's what I use for film scanning, and it opens up some options that you won't see otherwise. I really don't have any complaints about this scanner.
good value scanner - mid range11/29/2008
my older high end HP scanner (for it's time) bit the big one so I had to shop for a new unit - so after looking at many units on line the Epson Perfection V300 Photo Scanner looked like it would fit my needs and the price was right - I like the fact it has a LED scan light source - it's PDQ to start scanning ( not like the old HP with a lamp that had to warm up) - I use a scanner a lot for my home business so start up speed is NICE - it seems to be more clear and have more detail - it's also is smart in the auto mode but you can also take control of the scan and scan the way you want too - well worth the money in a mid range unit
