Customer Reviews of Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD Projector
After a great deal of research, the price for the features looked good - and then I plugged it up - I was blown away. The picture even on a beige wall was fantastic - at 120" diag. The key correction was auto-magic and the image was brilliant and pretty darn close to perfect. The picture rivals my large LCD. Get this projector! It is quiet, simple to use, and the picture was terrific even on a painted wall. I can't imagine the difference a projection screen is going to make.
I would like to comment on the notion that the Epson HD 705 projects grainy images and lacks adequate black levels. I suspect that the real culprit is the source material or DVD player because I have played regular DVD, HD, and Blue Ray movies through the 705 and they all looked fine. The source material was familar to me, and if anything they looked as sharp on a 80 inch projector screen than on my smaller LCD television. Last week I used the Spears & Munsil calibration disk ( a must to get your LCD or Projector calibrated correctly ) to adjust contrast and brightness ( the factory settings on the 705 are much too high ) and the blacks are now very black; in fact the entire picture quality has improved across the board. My DVD players were the Oppo ( standard definition) and the Panasonic B60 ( Blue Ray). I couldn't be happier with this projector and the wonderful images.
Good value projector1/28/2013
The projector works great. The fan is blowing with some noise but it is a lot less other model that have. It has good menu and works well with room lighting. It has a lot of functions to adjust the display. I mainly use this projector for my computer display.
Great performance with a great price6/12/2012
We use the projector for our Photo Arts club, in order to provide live webinars, and commentary on the member photos.. We found the projector to be sharp and accurate in color reproduction. It was easy to adjust and was relatively quiet.
Good Entry level projector6/11/2012
The picture is super bright, it's bright enough to crush the blacks to grays. Can be viewed with ambient light, if you preference having some lights on you can still view images on this projector. Colors are rich and vibrant. After some adjustment the picture quality was pretty darn good.
Very, very bright. Lightweight, small. Quick start up and cool down. Built in lens shield. Reportedly impressive bulb life.
Works great. Use 35 foot audio cable. Use with 72" Da-lite Screen. Throw is good, 72" at 8.3ft. Which was what we needed for living room. Only 4 color modes, not 7. Living room, Theater, Game, Dynamic. 5 aspect sizes. Good menu. Works good on light colored wall, even with room lighting. Watched Avatar at 16' at a friends, on white wall. Looked good, but too dim because of direct sunlight. Still Watchable. Living Room with curtains drawn is better. I use with Nbox V3 media player, works great, watch movie from USB stick. no more need for Computer and 25' cable, or laptop. A

Very nice projector for the money.1/5/2012
I have looked at many projectors over the last several months but found the reviews and price on this one to be positive. I actually wanted a newer flat screen TV because I felt the picture quality would be better but my wife just had to have a projector. Much to my surprise this projector throws a very nice image on our 120" screen, especially in HD. I was pleasantly surprised with this projector and my wife was pleased because she was right...for once :) Don't tell her I said that.
After returning a PL 84, (bad lamp), I got this one, Feb 2010. $699 at the time. Works great. Bright, clear Picture even in Eco Mode, has sound, but I use small external speakers. I use the VGA connection, but HDMI and Composite work. USB slide show and pictures work. I use with computer and 25' VGA cable to front room to projector. (Worked Good with laptop!). ONLY TWO CONS: 1. BEEPS incessantly. When it gets warmed up, I think. Not really noticeable during movie. But not good for giving a presentation. But then this is home theater model. 2. GETS HOT. Hot enough to burn hand! Especially on Vent Side. I have two case fans, one on top, one on vent side to keep cooler. I just keep it on TV tray!!! Wish it had higher zoom power, but generally is OK. Remote works good. Do not need to point at UNIT, you can point at Screen, or even from side. Works great. I would give 9.0 to 9.5 out of 10, really. At $617 a good buy for something that does HD!
Good PJ for the money. Installed hanging from a vaulted ceiling; a little more throw would have been nice. Overall I'm very happy; it's shooting an image to a 100" screen that looks great in HD.
