Great for printing on transprancies4/18/2012
I bought this to start a screen printing gig with a buddy. It worked phenomenally, and I was able to get aftermarket ink for it, which saved me a bundle on those silly cartridges, and I was also able to make every cartridge slot black. The printer wasn't the fastest in the world, but you need that micro piezo junk to be able to cleanly print HD transparencies.
pretty good printer10/21/2011
not too heavy, perfect for my desk
While a bit on the big side because of its large format printing, it is a very nice printer. The quality of printing is excellent with its Claria inks. Text printing is speedy for an inkjet while photo print speed is actually quite reasonable considering its size. Price is less expensive than some of the other comparable printers but inks are very pricy in my opinion (each cartridge is $20). This is where Epson really makes its money. Everyone knows that when you buy a printer, you are buying the inks and getting a free printer for the most part. A set of inks for this printer cost $120 retail... yow.... at least they give you the 079 ink cartridges which is the big brother to the 078... same size, just more ink in them. Now I know why generic cartridge manufacturers are so popular with the Epson crowd.
Great Printer, Great Value12/8/2010
The 1400 replaces an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 large format printer (original cost $800) and is superior in every way. It prints well on every paper I have fed it. The 2200 printed poorly on plain paper and photo paper other than Epson's. The detail is phenomenal and the color superb. Set up was quick and easy, even having to download drivers for Windows 7. It prints faster than the 2200 as well. I replaced the 2200 because it would have cost $540 to fix it. With 3 year warranty and after rebate I spent less than half of that to buy this printer. The ink cartridges cost more than the 2200's ($19.99 each at Fry's vs $11.99) But I expect to get more print out of these high capacity cartridges.
I love this printer! A scrapbooker's must have!5/4/2009
It will accept just about any type of paper, it uses ink sparingly for the quality it produces and it has a very reasonable print speed. The only con is its size, it does take up a lot of desk space.
My first 'big format' photo printer, so I have very little to compare it to personally. I am thus far impressed with the overall photo quality, and especially the new Claria ink >>(though a bit pricey for the individual replacement cartridges). Mattes and glossies both seem to dry 'fully' much quicker than HP ink. No problems as of yet.

I have always wanted to print larger pictures. I thought the 1400 printer would not fit what I wanted. It is truely an amazing printer. The color is just breath taking. I would still like to print 16 x 20 inch or larger but for the price and quality of my 13 x 19 inch pictures. I truely did not do wrong by choosing this printer. There will be many pictures on our wall that most people will believe we had to pay to have done. Just a great printer.
I have owned the printer for a couple of months, and have printed approx. 100 11x17 sheets in that time span, with no problems and great results. The colors turn out beautifully and the print quality is superb. Every once in a while a sheet needs to be re-fed, but that's about the extent of the problems I've had. One other thing to note-the ink is not incredibly available at office supply stores. I was finally able track it down on the shelf at a Circuit City, but not until I had tried several other stores first. Now I just buy on-line and keep reserves handy. I love this printer! I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a high-quality, large format printer.
Photo Wide Format Printer4/12/2007
I bought this printer to replace an HP1200 that I had used for 4 years and had started to misfeed photo paper and card stock. I had not purchased an Epson printer since the days of dot matrix and did not know what to expect. Sadly the printer arived at 6PM CDT and was DOA. I had to contact Epson at 8PM and to my surprise they were there to help me. As the printer would not work they FedExed me a replacement the next day. This one started up and handled every paper type I threw at it. The photo quality is first rate as I had expected although not as fast as my Pixma8500. The support from Epson all that I could ask.
