Ease of Use

I have used my Epson R260 printer for about three weeks and have already had to replace the five color ink cartridges, although it is not my perception that I have done a great deal of printing. The standard cartridges provided with the printer are expended very quickly so I decided to use the high capacity cartridges as replacemsnts. These are not available locally and had to be ordered from the Epson Store. Pros: Easy setup and easy to use. Good print quality. Cons: Large footprint. Slow startup after standby. High operating cost for ink. A six cartridge set from Epson costs $126 with shipping. This is considerably more than the $100 I paid for the printer. You can almost afford to buy a new printer to get the ink!

My Epson 1280 finally bit the dust so I needed a printer to use in the interim. The Epson R260 got a good review on CNET.COM and was on sale at my local Best Buy for $69 (Sorry BUY.COM). The printer was easy to install and was up and running within a few minutes. My first few test was a color calibration sheet from my photo lab printed on Epson Matte Paper Heavy Weight. AWESOME! Surpisingly, I'd say it prints better than my 1280! For the price and quality I've seen so far, this is a heck of a deal. The major problem you're going to have with this printer is the cost of the inks. $$$ Very expensive. Nearly $14 for EACH cartridge. Luckily you can change them out one at a time...but your wallet will hurt down the road. Epson's got you by the throat when it comes to cost of inks these days. In any case, I am very happy with the value you get based on the quality.

Espon "Phone Support"

by on 7/25/2007

Received the product via next day service, as I was in a huge hurry to print some CDs and our regular automated CD printer/duplicator had to be sent off for service. I unpacked and got it all ready to start up and after it went through its warm-up routine, the power light went off and the ink and paper jam lights starting flashing rapidly. I went through the "help" program and made sure that I wasn't an idiot (plugged in, packing materials removed, etc). Got to the end and it said to call Tech Support, so I did. The girl on the phone made sure I wasn't an idiot again, then said, "well, it sounds like an internal error, so we'll have to get you a replacement, but you can keep both units!" (because it's always handy to have yet another old broken printer laying around) This was all fine and dandy (recall the hurry I was in), but it was going to take between 5 and 10 days for me to get the replacement printer, which I needed to have had yesterday. So in order to get the CDs printed, I had to order another printer and have it over-nighted in order to have one here in time to finish printing the CDs. We'll see if the shiney new one works...

Daughter Loves it

by John Thomas on 9/26/2007

My daughter is starting a Photography business. I let her have the printer when it came. She has gotten excited over the quality of the printing of pictures. Have no input as to length of use for inks.
