Another must have from Thom Yorke

by sin@ussakli.net on 10/26/2006

If you are a Radiohead fan, this album definitely won't dissapoint you in any way. Thom Yorke took a step forward on his music with this very strong album. My personal favourite tracks on this album is And It Rained All Night and of course, Harrowdown Hill. There is a video clip for Harrowdown Hill, and you may listen Analyse at the end of the recent film The Prestige...

Artist Bio
Thom YorkeThomas Edward Yorke (born October 7, 1968 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England) is best known as the lead singer of the English alternative rock band Radiohead. He has also recorded as a solo musician: his debut album, The Eraser, debuted July 10th 2006 in the UK and July 11th in the US.He mainly plays electric guitar, acoustic guitar and piano, but has also played drums and bass guitar (notably during the Kid A and Amnesiac Radiohead sessions). He has one brother, Andy, of the band the Unbelievable Truth. Yorke currently lives in central Oxford with his partner, Rachel Owen, a printmaker who holds a doctorate in art history, and their two children, Noah, born in 2001 (to whom the Radiohead album Amnesiac was dedicated) and Agnes, born 2004 (to whom Yorke dedicated The Eraser).

Review 4 stars out of 5 -- "Yorke's voice has never sounded so fragile; his melodies have never sounded so mournful....Something different, something we haven't heard before."

Review Without his bandmates in tow to encourage the occasional traditional chorus, those are more or less out the window, as are most of the chunky guitars. Yorke fills the void with atmospheres and claustrophobic computer clicks, and while he doesn't shy away from catchiness, he doesn't actively seek it, either. He happens upon a memorable vocal melody with the title track, and surrounds it with ghostly keys and soundtrack-y vibes. "Black Swan" sounds most like a potential single, if such ideas don't seem gauche to Yorke...

Review ...as you listen to Eraser, by Thom Yorke, you will hear little to no guitar at all. Something sounding like that instrument -- popularized a long time ago, employed widely and to great effect on many albums, including, of course, those by Radiohead -- knifes its way into "And It Rained All Night." But, overtaken by blanketed layers of soprano strings and Yorke's falsetto, the guitar-like sound dissipates. No problem: There is more than enough on The Eraser to distract you from this one missing instrumental element.

Quotes
MusicOMH.com He's well able to marry insightful lyrics and memorable melody...
Playlouder ...Radiohead's fourth best album, and not bad considering it's the first one with only one man on it.
Stylus Magazine The Eraser is a triumph.
