Great Value for Great Movies!

on 4/14/2008

Three great movies for 1 price and 1 package. The 3 pack makes it nice to travel with. The movies are all kid favorites and ones that parents can watch too. Very happy with this purchase. Will probably buy it for others.

Product Overview

Exclusively from Warner Bros. Studios comes Essential Classics: Family Films. This three disc collection contains the landmark films THE WIZARD OF OZ, THE GOONIES, and WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY! Enjoy these heartwarming classics that are perfect for the whole family!

THE WIZARD OF OZ: Judy Garland soars Over the Rainbow...and into cinema legend. The beloved tale of a Kansas farm girl who follows a Yellow Brick Road with three new friends is an all-time enchanter that's "just as good the fifteenth time as the first" (Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide).

THE GOONIES: A treasure map, a pirate ship...and a monster! It's amazing what a group of misfit kids can discover on one drizzly day. Steven Spielberg brings his special magic to "a deliciously dizzy adventure with crowd-pleasing fun" (Kathleen Carroll, New York Daily News).

WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY: Your golden ticket to fun: Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka, guiding five lucky children (and you) on a fantastical, phenomenal, scrumdiddlyumptious journey through a candy factory only imagination could build. What a treat!

Review [Wizard] For veteran director Victor Fleming, who began making movies during the black-and-white, silent era, 1939 represented the pinnacle of his career. Not only did Fleming's Gone with the Wind claim the Best Picture Oscar, but his other big feature, The Wizard of Oz, took its first steps towards becoming one of American cinema's best-known and most beloved motion pictures. (It's worth noting that Fleming had help from several other directors on Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz, but, in the end, he was given sole credit for both.) Indeed, The Wizard of Oz is one of only a handful of films that nearly everyone is familiar with...Not only is it wonderfully entertaining, but the issues it addresses, and the way it presents them, are both universal and deeply personal. And therein lies The Wizard of Oz's true magic.

Review [Goonies] For the uninitiated it is a mystery. For the fans it is a classic. For me it is a quintessential film from the 1980s. It is the The Goonies...For a generation of adults, The Goonies is one of the greatest kid fantasies ever put on celluloid. What child didn't grow up dreaming about an adventure that would take them through winding tunnels, decaying pirate ships and deadly booby traps in search of priceless rubies?...Nostalgia aside, The Goonies is still rambunctious entertainment. The script by Chris Columbus (Adventures In Babysitting) is peppered with funny situations and swashbuckling adventure. The Goonies is a combination of pirate adventure, teen comedy and Disney-like magic. Director Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Maverick) never lets the film sink into saccharine sweetness nor harsh cynicism.

Review [Willy] If one asked children of recent generations to describe or draw heaven, a lot of the results would look or sound like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Who among us can forget our first glimpse inside its halls? The chocolate river, the edible mushrooms, the butterscotch teacups...One of the most remarkable things about Willy Wonka is that there's not a bad performance or an ill-conceived moment. Gene Wilder is perfectly mercurial as Wonka, scary one moment, tender the next. The various adults, save those in Charlie's family, are the monstrous kind often found in Dahl's work and the source of much eternal delight to children. One could argue about the Eurocentricity of the cast, but since so many of the youngsters are such brats, who'd want to?
