Hard to open and close the plastic cover. Internal memory claimed on manual doesn't seem to work. Plug n play just fine but it keeps saying it could go fast if connected to USB2.0 port. I just installed USB2.0 card which work great with my separate flash key. I might suggest trying a little bit more expense drive instead of this. It is very portable with interchange SD cards but seems to have issue. Could be defective -- has a rattle.

I just received my new SimpleTech Bonzai USB 2.0 Flash Drive, and so far I am quite impressed. After quite a bit of research and price comparison, I decided that rather than purchase a sealed, dedicated USB Flash Drive of a specific capacity, I'd be better off getting this device, essentially a carrier for a SD or MMC memory card. The size is very comparable to a normal flash drive, at about 2 ¾” by 1 ¼” by 3/8”, so it’s only marginally bigger than the smallest ones I’ve seen on the market. (Be sure and get the silver USB 2.0 version, not the older USB 1.1 blue one.) It came with a 3' USB extension cable (often five bucks for that alone) and a lanyard with a quick-release, so that if you choose to wear the device around your neck you can readily use it without removing the lanyard from your neck. It seems sturdy and well-built, although I do wonder how the little clear plastic cover that goes over the SD card will hold up over time. It's got LEDs on both sides to show read/write activity, a nice touch, and so far performance seems quite snappy. I was able to drag 5 complete folders of MP3 files to it, each one representing a CD full of music, before I got a “disc full” error message. Taking advantage of a generous rebate on a 512 Meg 32X SD card (of another brand), I was able to get both pieces shipped for an after-rebate cost of about forty bucks, which is a good price right now (10-21-04) for any 512 Meg flash drive. The nice thing is that I can use the SD card I bought in a variety of other devices, from a PDA to a MP3 player to a digital camera. I feel as though my investment in the SD card is one that I can use in the future for other purposes beyond that of a flash drive, and that as prices continue to fall and capacities continue to rise, I'll be able to take advantage of those changes. Overall, highly recommended as a flexible, upgradeable alternative to a “normal” USB flash drive.
