Author Info
Ken Follett
Ken Follett attended University College, London, where he graduated in 1970 with a B.A. in philosophy. He then worked as a journalist for the "South Wales Echo" and for London's "Evening News". By the age of 27, when he published his first successful novel, "The Eye of the Needle" (originally published as "Storm Island"), Follett was able to turn his full attention to writing thrillers and cultivating a career marked by successive, international bestsellers.
Praise
"In this huge panorama, empires rise and fall, wars break out and characters of varying social backgrounds live mostly happy or mostly unhappy lives--mostly happy, more often than not, because Follett is an optimist, and firmly on the side of the good guys. He prefers to save history's horrors for the villains, who are frequently humiliated in satisfying ways."
"Fictional characters are mixed in with real ones, but all are clearly drawn from life, making readers feel a certain comforting familiarity as they weave their way through all manner of turmoil and strife."
From the Publisher
Annotation With dramatic world historical events providing an exciting backdrop, Ken Follett takes readers on yet another tremendous, generation-spanning ride with FALL OF GIANTS. Dodging and weaving between five families--each intricately connected despite their distinct national origins (American, Russian, British, Welsh, German, and Russian)--Follett brings the events of World War I, the Russian Revolution, and the struggles for women's rights to glittering life. The book's story moves up and down the social strata and across the globe, immersing readers in this epic saga.
