Classy look and blinding fast6/2/2011
I bought this from Buy.com Mar 21 for $250 and still feel that was a good deal. I reformatted for Mac and love it. The USB interface is fine but an eSATA port upgrade on my MacPro made it 4x faster, copies at 9 seconds per GB. Well designed enclosure. Any fan noise is so low I've never noticed it.
Cheap and big12/1/2010
I bought this 4TB drive to use as a media server. Because of its ESATA interface, it is just as fast if not faster than if I had spent the extra money on a similar device with ethernet. Setting up the device as a mirrored raid drive could not have been easier. A quick turn of a selecter button and voila. I now have a 2TB mirrored raid drive which holds all my photos, music and movies. And I have another ESATA port on my PC in case I run out of space :) The only minus: the enclosure is not totally silent. The fan is audible, especially when my PC is quiet. Other than that: unbeatable value and does what it's supposed to do. The drive is on 24/7, so we will see about the durability / reliability.
Buy at your own risk11/12/2010
I owned a similar product from this manufacturer. It did not come with any backup software, so you basically have to drag everything into it. After just over a year of owning the product and barely ever using it, the drive failed. All the pictures and files on there were inaccessible and I was left with an expensive aluminum box that makes clicking sounds. My advice: if you care about what you have on your computer, buy a device from one of the more well-known brands like Western Digital and subscribe to an inexpensive service like Carbonite that backs up your data automatically and off-site so even if you have a house fire you still don't lose your stuff.
This External HDD Rocks8/30/2010
Bought this drive about 2 weeks ago and I must say I am very please so far. Transfer speeds are about 80 - 85 MB/S in RAID 1 format using the supplied esata cable. The drive is shipped formatted as NTFS - JBOB. Drive comes with two (2) 2 terabyte HDD's, but in my setup, I "see" only 2 terabytes because of the RAID 1 setup for redundancy. The unit runs cool to the touch, but make sure the exhaust fan on the rear is not being blocked while the unit is running. Overall, I really like this drive.
