Based on over 100 hours of interviews with Fidel Castro conducted over three years, Fidel Castro: My Life is as close to a memoir as we will ever get from the Cuban leader. Here Castro speaks with raw frankness about the events of his extraordinary life and the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
From the Publisher:
In a series of interviews with a European journalist and scholar, the Cuban leader describes his early life, the Cuban Revolution, and his experiences ruling Cuba, and discusses his views on socialism, international affairs, and the future.
Annotation:
In his own words, the Cuban premier recounts his long life on his home island, where he started a revolution and established a Communist government, which, he candidly admits, was not perfect, but which, in contrast to the corrupt system under which he grew up, served many of the people's needs. Castro includes his perspective on relations with the United States, which were marred by the aborted invasion at the Bay of Pigs and the confrontation over missiles in 1963. He also looks at Cuba today, and discusses the prospects for Cuba and the region. Castro's autobiography was composed through interviews with journalist Ignacio Ramonet.
