|Written with the enthusiasm of the very genius, the eighteen short stories that compose Final del juego constitute so many experiments of perfection. All the stories are gripping to the end, but "No se culpe a nadie," "El ro," "Axolotl," and "La noche boca arriba" deserve special mention. It also includes the story Los venenos which he considered autobiographical. This volume constitutes an excellent way to approach one of the best writers of the 20th century.|
Born in Brussels of Argentinean parents, Cort?zar was raised in Argentina but moved to Paris in 1951--the year in which his first collection of short stories, BESTARIO, was published. He lived in Paris the rest of his life, and was heavily influenced by the French surrealist movement. Renowned as a master of modern fiction, he was also a poet who worked in various modes, from free verse to extremely formal structures. He died of leukemia at the age of 70.
