In the small kingdom of Horne, Brandt awakes on the morning of his fourteenth birthday. Today is the day he becomes an adult, and the custom of the realm says that he must go to the castle to present himself to the king.

Yet when he arrives at the castle he finds the king distraught and the youngest princess missing, abducted by the Witch of the North. With no one else to turn to, the king makes a shocking request: will Brandt save the princess?

And thus Brandt's adventure begins...

Eventually he is joined by three other brave young souls. Together they will experience a journey full of joyous meetings and sad partings.

Though at first they don't always see eye-to-eye, these four Heroes of Light will build bonds of trust and affection so strong that, in the end, they may even save the world.

This is the tale of their legendary quest.

"...the game's overflowing sense of charm and hardcore level of challenge make it an irresistible experience for seasoned RPG fans.  Nintendo Life
"With almost 25 hours of play, precious visuals and a demanding and strategic battle system, Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light is a very complete RPG experience.  Vandal Online

When people say old-school RPGs they often just mean standard, dated JRPGs. Square Enix has gone for the real old-school with their newest pocket role-playing game, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. Like, SNES old school. It captures the charm of Final Fantasy VI (we knew it as Final Fantasy III in the U.S.) while still staying fresh and lively to attract a new audience...First off, don't be fooled by the cutesy style of Heroes of Light. This is not a "My First Final Fantasy" game. It's a full on, "struggle to get through a dungeon only to find a boss you're not near strong enough to defeat -- oh no!" RPG. This game is so hardcore it doesn't even have a tutorial...Heroes of Light also has a local wireless mode that allows players to team up with up to three friends and set off on side missions. Completing these missions nets players Battle Points, which can be used to purchase equipment. They're much more fun to play with friends, but it kind of sucks that I have to find people if I want to earn cool items...There are a number of good RPGs on the DS recently, so gamers have their pick. But The 4 Heroes of Light is definitely a contender for your money. It's got a simple battle system that is strengthened by its high level of character customization and constant need for strategic planning. The style is really unique and fresh, the story is lengthy, and the characters are charming (even if the plot is a bit weak). At times it feels too focused on level grinding, and it's hard to get into if you're expecting a standard RPG, but it's the nonstandard qualities that ultimately make it shine. - Jack DeVries
