Finally, a WWI flying movie!
Nice scenery, but sporadic attention to period detail- ie, every German plane in the sky is a red Fokker triplane... The Brits are type-casted as usual as being snobs until the American boys 'prove their stuff'. There is the obligatory romance aspect for Our Hero as well as the obligatory Father Issues for another character. I was initially put off by the trailer for the film, but it's not as bad as it sounds. If you don't care about period detail, you'll probably enjoy this film, I still managed to enjoy it, almost despite myself. If you're sick of reruns of the 'Blue Max' and find 'Dawn Patrol' too depressing, this might be the movie for you. It's not inspired, it's not groundbreaking, but it's very pretty over all and it's nice to see the Lafayette Escadrille get a little love instead of being forgotten about. The extra features/deleted scenes on the second disk were interesting but not spectacluar.
