Good looking product but one of fans does not work.
It does the job well...4/11/2011
With the free shipping, it arrived in about 4 days (including the weekend), but the packaging was just a paper packet and a plastic sheath... it wasn't even padded. The paint on the cooler was already flaking and one side was slightly bent/squashed (laptop would have been leaning slightly to the left), by the time it arrived. This is really something that should come in a box, or at least something sturdier than just paper. For free shipping I guess one can't expect too much, but the resulting damage to the product was disappointing. Flaking paint job ignored, I was able to bend the cooler so that my laptop could sit on it levelly. My laptop frequently heats up as it's quite old and forced to contend with music, games, movies and art programs and the like, and this cooler DOES help considerably with keeping it cool, quite impressive considering the $13 price tag. It's most effective on a flat surface, but I've found it also works in my lap with my computer. Cost-wise, this is definitely a bargain. The two USB ports on the back are handy--both work with my other USB devices (though of course one of the two needs to be hooked up to the computer for its power source) and it doesn't feel like I'm sacrificing a USB port thanks to that extra one. This device truly is plug-and-play; I simply hooked it up, turned on the power, and voila! As far as fans go, it makes a very quiet hum that doesn't overpower music or conversations. It's really only noticeable as white noise in a very quiet room. :) ***It should be noted that in spite of the blue LED lights described in the product summary, there are in fact no LED lights on this product (blue or otherwise). This was not a deal-breaker for me personally, but if you're a stickler for that extra stylish touch, this doesn’t have it.*** Dimensions, for anyone interested, are 11 5/8th"x10" overall, and it sits about 1 1/4" tall at it’s highest. The base of my laptop is 14"x10 1/2", and it sits pretty well on the cooler--the angle is comfortable, and the grip pads at the end of the cooler keep my computer from sliding around or needing readjustment, whether it's on a surface or my lap. Not sure of the precise weight, but it feels very light by itself, and I don't notice a significant difference when I’m holding it along with my laptop. Overall, for the price (I paid $13 total for it), this is a definite bargain. It's a resilient little guy (considering what it probably went through in the mail), and in spite of the initial superficial damage, and lack of awesome blue LED lights, it does what it's meant to do and it does it well. Time will tell how it continues to hold up, but if you're just looking for a basic, inexpensive cooler, this will do the job.
