In the 1980s, the popularity of the ubiquitous Cabbage Patch Kids dolls sparked a backlash in the form of the Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. Revelling in their disturbing vision of childhood, the cards' peculiar brand of comedy inspired their own animated television series, which was never aired due to public outcry.
