Big|Green Monster| has|two big yellow| eyes, (from the first line)
A scary green monster begins to disappear, piece by piece and page by page, in a die-cut picture book that lets youngsters take control of the monsters in their lives. *Author: Emberley, Ed *Publication Date: 1993/04/01 *Number of Pages: 16 *Binding Type: Hardbound *Grade Level: Preschool *Language: English *Depth: 0.50 *Width: 10.75 *Height: 8.75
From the Publisher:
Caldecott medalist Ed Emberley has designed an ingenious book to help children overcome their fear of monsters. With each turn of the page, a new part is revealed, until all of a big, green monster has taken shape. Then, with the words, "You don't scare me!, " page by page, the monster slowly disappears. Full color.
Annotation:
Die-cut pages reveal, piece by piece, the features of a scary monster. The unseen narrator thinks of a way to make the monster disappear--once again, piece by piece. Color illustrations accompany the text. There's a big green monster at the end of this picture book, but by turning the die-cut pages, readers can encounter it slowly, in a less-threatening, piece-by-piece manner. White words on a black background explain which part of the monster readers are seeing; for example, the first page reads "Big Green Monster has two big yellow eyes" while the die-cut illustration above reveals only those eyes. Then, by turning the page, readers can add "a long bluish-greenish nose" to their view of the monster. Finally, after readers have revealed the monster's entire face, they can continue to turn the die-cut page and, once again in piece-by-piece order, make the monster go away. Empowering as well as entertaining, GO AWAY, BIG GREEN MONSTER! has helped a countless number of children deal with their fear of monsters.
