When a star becomes really successful, the public is inundated with every scrap of celluloid he ever worked on as he learned his craft, and such is the case with this Adam Sandler vehicle. It makes Billy Madison seem like Citizen Kane. Sandler is a waiter aboard a cruise ship who wants to become the ship's resident standup comic and gets a chance when it appears the first comic has fallen overboard. Or, at least, that's what you wish it was about. In reality, the film is a pastiche of silly clowning that barely forms a coherent narrative. - Doug Pratt
