	With just four pieces, the Counts sounded bigger. The Detroit quartet presented a variety of sounds that made them impossible to peg or name in a blindfold test. You never knew what to expect from them: a ballad, funk, fusion, Southern soul, uptown -- you name it, they did it. Their versatility hampered their careers; successful recording artists tend to have one definitive sound and the Counts jumped all over the place. These 14 tracks may seem like a good overview from a band with few hits, but the disc misses the mark by not including some of their more commercial, albeit not very successful, tracks. Some of the jazzy selections are soothingly sweet, but nothing screams essential! ~ Andrew Hamilton
