Good night, Gorilla. (from the first line)
A zookeeper finds his normal nighttime routine upset when a mischievous little ape steals his keys and lets all his animal charges out of their cages. *Author: Rathmann, Peggy *Subtitle: Gorilla *Publication Date: 1994/04/01 *Binding Type: Hardbound *Grade Level: Preschool *Language: English *Depth: 0.50 *Width: 7.50 *Height: 8.75
From the Publisher:
The zookeeper thinks it's the same old bedtime routine, but all bets are off when a furry little ape gets hold of the keys. One by one Gorilla lets the other animals out, 'til a silent, silly lion follows the zookeeper home. The end of the story for the zookeeper is just the beginning for his put-upon spouse, however. Full color.
Annotation:
A zoo keeper makes his late-night rounds of the zoo, saying good night to all the animals before he heads for home. However, unbeknownst to him, the gorilla has stolen his keys and is secretly freeing all the animals from the cages. The sleepy zoo keeper doesn't realize that all the animals have followed him home, but luckily his wife is aware of the situation and knows just how to get all the animals back into their proper places--or does she? This nearly wordless story is illustrated with colorful drawings.
Author Bio
Peggy Rathmann
Winner of the 1996 Caldecott Medal for OFFICER BUCKLE AND GLORIA, Peggy Rathmann originally intended to become a doctor. However, while enrolled in a pre-med program at St. Paul's Macalaster College, Rathmann realized she was more interested in the illustrations in her medical books than in the text. After leaving Macalaster, she studied art at the American Academy in Chicago, Atelier Lack in Minneapolis, and the Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles. Her first book, RUBY THE COPYCAT, was published in 1991.
