|The biblical story about the life and death of jesus christ as told by the apostle john. Narrated by christopher plummer.|
Editor's NoteDirected by Philip Saville (METROLAND), this lavish production adapts the Gospel According to John, the most unique of the four New Testament Gospels. The material is presented so that each and every word of the text is present either in dialogue or narration (provided by Christopher Plummer). Focusing on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus (Henry Ian Cusick), GOSPEL OF JOHN utilizes authentic sets and locales, and the music is played on instruments of the period.

Customer Reviews of Gospel of John
The role of Jesus in world history deserves consideration in the light of the extreme religious fanaticism rampant today from the so called People of the Book. Who was this person who claimed to be Son of God & Son of man. Factually, the apostle John details only a few points in the life of the Man who conquered death. But John says "Believe in the resurrection & you have eternal life.
The Gospel of John5/18/2012
A very accurate rendition of the Gospel of John that follows the text of the scripture precisely. This is a wonderful way to share the Gospel with your children grandchildren and friends. No substitute for actual Bible study but a great compliment.
We are actually using the Gospel of John in a series of studies in our church. What an awesome job this movie does in depicting the life and character of Jesus. Purchased as an Easter gift for my husband.
Gospel of John is Unforgettable12/17/2007
This movie is incredible...it is not a dry documentary! I found that The Gospel of John is an easy, visual way to become familiar with the New Testament in the Bible. The characters are compelling, the scenery and costumes are fabulous...the best part of all,the script is taken word-for-word from the Bible...it really comes to life! Note: It depicts the crucifixion, but it is not as gory as The Passion of Christ..
very well done9/25/2007
As far as Gospel videos go I think this one is done very well. The characters all appear genuine to me. We are using the video as a Sunday School lesson series and the high schoolers are very interested in the clips and get a lot out detail out of them that they remember when we go through the questions then.
One of the better Jesus renditions5/11/2007
The film uses the Today's English Version which is quite acceptable (though it has already been superseded by the Contemporary English Version). If you want to do an exact-word rendering of a Gospel, this one is about as good as you can get. I actually think it does a very good job of getting at the essential qualities of the Gospel of John. Whether this makes for a great movie is more of a question, but they handled the long narratives well by providing motion to the scenes. If someone wanted to introduce John's gospel to a church group (I use it in my seminary classes), this one is the best one available. The same group is reportedly preparing a similar film on the Gospel of Mark, and I think it will make for a better movie.
Good Cinimatic Qualities as Well as Acurate...4/25/2007
This film uses the Bible's book of John as a dialog script. While that initially sounded like a formula for cinematic failure to me, it somehow works, and in a compelling way. The film is neither simplified, nor needlessly complicated. It simply presents the viewer with the same questions faced by readers of the Bible's book of John for two thousand years.
It will get the point across without the gore of The Passion of The Christ. This one is as kid friendly as you can get and get the point across. We are waiting for The Gospel of Mark.
Not very good4/18/2007
This was not what I had expected. It was not worth watching...which I did not, nor will finish viewing. Subject would have been a great movie...but this is isn't.
The video is faithful to the Bible. The only thing that I didn't like was that at the beginning Christ appears to be smiling all the time - as if you cannot take him too seriously. The rest was fine.
Accurate Account of the Gospel of John2/15/2007
The only complaint I had of this movie was there was narration where it wasn't needed, but the producers wanted and did include every word of the modern language translation of the Book of John. If you don't know who Jesus is, this will introduce you too Him up close and personal. I liked the way Jesus focused on individuals and presented His message with a smile. I highly reccoment this DVD.
