"Grace and Grit" is the story of the woman at the center of the historic discrimination case that inspired the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act--her fight for equal rights in the workplace, and how her determination became a victory for the nation.
Annotation:
The first bill that President Obama signed into being was titled the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, named after the Alabama grandmother whose sex discrimination suit against Goodyear went all the way to the Supreme Court. In this colorful memoir, Ledbetter recalls her hardscrabble youth in Possum Trot, Alabama, her "dream job" as one of the first female managers at Goodyear in the late 1970s, and her dismayed realization, decades into her career, that she had been regularly underpaid because of her gender. Although she lost the Supreme Court case, she campaigned tirelessly for equal pay restoration, becoming an American folk heroine in the process. Her humility and humor shine through in this uplifting tale.

Praise

"This story of a lifelong struggle for fairness deserves to be widely read not only as a document of a case so stunningly unjust that it sparked legislative change, but also as an introduction to a remarkable woman who also happens to be an outstanding storyteller." - Liza Featherstone Winter 2012
