The Driving Simulator Gold Standard6/27/2012
Polyphony Digital (PD) has been making these game since the mid 90's they have the most technical experience with automotive simulation (the Nissan 370Z uses their display software). They also did not "sell out" like the makers of Forza did. No other racing simulation game has rallying,F1,and dynamic weather and time, or the perfect driving physics that this game has. You get access to over 1000 cars all with detailed biographies.
This truly is a driving simulator more than a game. If you're buying this now then be prepared for a lengthy install process as well over 1GB of updates will be downloaded as part of the install. Courses are fantastically detailed and stunning to look at. It's easy to get started and earn credits to buy more exotic cars, improving skills and confidence along the way. The experience is definitely more natural and involving with a steering wheel and pedal controls, and I'd highly recommend including a set. Taking part in seasonal challenges will pay out much more than the delivered content and enable you to fill out your garage quickly. There are a range of upgrades for sale for each car enabling you to fine tune the performance. From a pure enjoyment perspective I get as much fun from a tuned Civic or Golf as I do a Ford GT - in some cases even more! This is a vast game with plenty to explore, and hours upon hours of gameplay. Build your own courses and invite others to come race you online! An almost endless range of racing challenges await you, making this a great value.
Worth the wait4/18/2012
I have had several versions of Gran Turismo, (versions 3 and 4) and when I saw that Gran Turismo 5 was in development, I, like many others, sat and waited for what seemed forever for Gran Turismo 5 to release. I even bought the preview version to help me during the seemingly endless wait for the full version. It was certainly worth it as the graphics and game play are terrific.
Have you ever driven a car? How about driving a car at 180 mph? This game has a awesome physics engine. One of the very best driving simulations out there. Get a good force feedback steering wheel and just drive. Only thing I can say is if you like driving games then you should already have this title.
Awesome Realistic Driving Simulation9/21/2011
The Gran Turismo series is the standard in which all other simulation racers are judged. I had a lot of fun with this game, it has an insane number of vehicles you can acquire. The racing is pretty realistic if you have a full steering wheel and pedal setup. There's also a lot of events to participate in so it should keep you occupied for awhile. You have to understand that this is not an arcade racer though. Vehicles behave completely differently. I would have liked to see more upgrades for the cars but overall this is a solid racer that fans of the series will love.
Long wait, dissapointing delivery6/15/2011
GT5 has been a long time coming. The end result of all this waiting is a very uneven game. The gameplay is good as expected, although with some questionable physics occasionally. However the menu designis horrid, it's as if you traveled back in time when you have to navigate the menus of this game. Graphics are also inconsistent, the premium model cars look fantastic, but the others cars-which are the majority of the cars offered- are very ho-hum. Tracks can also be very inconsistent, some look spectacular while others look terrible, the Top Gear track is a perfect example of this. Know what you're getting into.
Gran Turismo 512/30/2010
All these delays from Prologue till now really hurts Gran Turismo franchise. Certainly there's better graphic in this version but not so much different than previous versions. Would like to have story mode one of these days and more scenic tracks.
Good but not up to expectations12/27/2010
The last few games have been amazing. Each out doing the last in every way. This one fell short on the visuals. The only thing I was impressed with there was the in-car view. This game still looks like GT4 and the damage after hitting things is sub par. The amount of cars was questionable at first since most have to be bought in the used lot since they are older models. Online was a little rough trying to get friends together since there is no way to invite. Handful trophies impossible to get. I was impressed with the layout of the menus, the updates and some of the new races like special events. The team also knows where their flaws are and plan on fixing over time from what I hear. But after the release taking this long it's hard to believe they didn't have enough time to complete these things before. There is nothing given for playing and completing prologue in this. Bottom line, if you are a fan of GT you will like this. If you didn't care for the last ones you won't care for this at all. Still an impressive and fun racing game.
In a nutshell: GT5 seems like little more than a repackaged GT4 with additional cars, tracks, and overall better graphics (although there is still room for improvement). Like any GT4 fan, I've been waiting for this game for a while. Now that I have it, I feel it still was not ready to be released. There are very few improvements over GT4 in this 5th installment of the series. One of my biggest issues with this game, which most probably wouldn't even notice, is that fact that any time the game is writing to disc, the flashing notice in the bottom right corner states "Installing...". That shouldn't have made it through the QA process. All-in-all, it's still a fun game if you liked GT4, just don't expect it to be a totally new experience, because it is not.
