| As a Californian, country traditionalist Gary Allan came by his Merle Haggard/Buck Owens-inspired sound naturally. From his 1996 debut on, he never dropped his twang or his honky-tonk groove, regardless of changing fashions. GREATEST HITS chronicles a decade of Allan's honest, sometimes emotionally intense country music. Over the years, he ranged from purposefully retro tracks somewhat akin to Dwight Yoakam's early material, to rougher-edged tunes whose gravitas was hard-earned in the wake of personal trauma. For the faithful, a couple of previously unreleased songs are included here, which hint at an expanded sonic palette for this reliably roots-conscious country star. | |

Artist Overview
Gary Allan's place in contemporary country is an interesting one. His rugged good looks and crisply produced albums position him as a Nashville player, but his gritty honky-tonk inspired songs are perhaps a little too authentic for the soccer-mom crowd. A country music journeyman, Allan was nominated for the 2003 Country Music Association's Horizon award for best newcomer, despite nearly a decade in the business and several Top Ten country singles. However one chooses to view Gary Allan, there's no denying that he has become a true country-music superstar. His first greatest-hits package was released in 2007 and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200.
